Grief Therapy
Grief is cruel. Once it happens to you, the inevitable experience is like finding yourself in a seemingly endless dark tunnel. You cannot expect it to disappear or resolve itself; you need to “go through it” in order to move forward.
“Going through it” can be a daunting task, because you will encounter emotions and memories that can be quite confusing. For example, you may find yourself drowning in memories, but run away immediately at the thought of “never again”. You may also notice that you avoid thinking about or talking about what you have lost. There may be unexpected rage as well, which appears to have no explanation. These experiences can go on and on, and you may find yourself wondering if you are grieving “correctly”.
However, there is no right way to grieve, and your grief may change between different stages. No one can really say how long each stage will take or if it will come back again later.
No matter what grieving stage you are on, therapy may be the space you need to process the multilayered impact associated with your loss, as well as to build resilience and coping skills that will help you find a meaningful way to move forward in your life.
